HARTFORD, CONN. (May 9th, 2023) – Today, the City of Hartford announced that it will be closing its COVID-19 testing location at Arroyo Recreation Center on Thursday, May 11th. The closing coincides with President Biden’s announcement that the U.S. National Public Health Emergency due to COVID-19 will end on May 11th.
Testing numbers at Arroyo have steadily declined in the past several months, from 66 tests in December of 2022 to 31 tests in March. In several recent days, no testing appointments have been scheduled.
“Although the Arroyo testing center will be closing due to the federal rescinding of the national public health emergency, we are working to make sure that Hartford residents have access to testing through other means,” said Jessica Fourquet, Interim Director of Health and Human Services.
In anticipation of this closure, the City will be receiving an additional supply of at-home COVID tests, which will be available to residents at City recreation centers, senior centers, the City’s Health & Human Services office (131 Coventry Street), and at Hartford Public Library branches. Residents can call 2-1-1 for access to additional COVID-19 resources and information.
